Historical Buildings and Architecture in Spain – Plaza de España in Seville

World visit

Plaza de España (Spanish Square) is a beautiful square located in Seville, the capital of Andalusia, Spain.

It was built for the 1929 Ibero-American Exposition held in Seville.

It covers an area of 50,000 square meters, and  515-meter-long waterway runs through the square, and visitors can enjoy boat tours.

The semicircular buildings surrounding the square incorporate the Mudéjar style, a fusion of Islamic and Christian architecture.

Currently, part of the building is used as offices for the Andalusian regional government.

The 58 benches lining the lower part of the cloister are adorned with tile decorations depicting historical events from each province of Spain.

Two famous films have been shot at the “Spanish Plaza.”

In the 1962 film *Lawrence of Arabia*, it was used as a hotel in Cairo where the British army was staying.

Also, in the 2002 film *Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones*, it was used as the palace on the planet Naboo.

Scenes such as Queen Padmé Amidala, Anakin, and R2-D2 walking down the corridors were filmed there.

It has also been used as a filming location for the popular drama series *Games of Thrones*.
