Hohenzollern Castle in Hechingen, Germany

World visit

Germany is home to many beautiful old castles, but one of the most famous, alongside Neuschwanstein Castle and Eltz Castle, is Hohenzollern Castle, which stands in the southwest of the country.
This castle, built on a mountain at an altitude of 855m, is not a medieval heritage, but rather a magnificent piece of architecture rebuilt in the 19th century based on Romantic ideas.
Its silhouette alone is like something out of a fairy tale. It has an overwhelming presence even from afar. There have been three iterations of the castle, the first built in the 11th century. The castle standing today was created by King Frederick Willian IV of Prussia during 1850-1867. The property is still owned by the family of Hohenzollern.
