Plaza Nueva is located in Bilbao’s Old Town. It is a beautiful Neoclassical square, the construction of which began in the 18th century. In the 19th century, the square was flooded with water and gondolas were floated upon it to commemorate a visit by the King of Italy. Beyond such historical events, however, it serves as a vibrant central hub lined with bars offering famous pinchos. Its beauty stems from the semicircular arches that create an elegant, symmetrical appearance.
