Natural Heritage, National Parks and Historical sights in Kushiro

Japan visit

Kushiro Marsh National Park is made up of gently sloping hills surrounding Japan’s
largest marshland, which embraces the Kushiro River and its tributaries that flow
through eastern Hokkaido. The vast, untouched, horizontal landscape is the area’s
greatest attraction. It is also a treasure trove of diverse flora and fauna, including the
Japanese crane, a national special natural monument. To enjoy the marshland
scenery, the observation deck, boardwalks, and canoeing are recommended.

The Kushiro River, which has no dams, is a coveted touring course for canoeists
across the country. The section from Lake Toro to Hosooka in particular has a gentle
current, making it a popular destination for guided tours.
